Being ill sucks
I know this is hardly an original thought, but being ill really does suck. This month has been a complete write off.
First the little one
My daughter got sick, not once, but twice in a row. 2 different viral infections, one right after the other. For the first time ever we had to end up going to the A&E department at a children’s hospital. I had not been in a A&E in over 10 years, and this was in fact the first time I’ve been in one in Ireland.
I did expect worse, a lot worse. Triage was quick, we were seen quickly enough by nurses and a doctor, and my daughter was well looked after. We spent less than 8 hours in the hospital, and that included the time it took to wait for the exam results. If anything, the only complaint I could have is that some staff, especially when dealing with children, could use a bit more emotional warmth. I know it is a tough job, in a tough environment (my partner works in hospital healthcare too!), but a bit more friendliness helps getting children more comfortable and at ease.
Eventually it did go away, but seeing my little one so lethargic and unlike herself was incredibly worrying.
My turn
Just as my daughter started to recover, it seemed that the virus had made its way through the house, and then it was my turn.
I caught (presumably) the same viral infection as my daughter. I was completely wrecked, and to make it worse ended up with respiratory infection. Had to go to the doctor not once, but twice, and do 2 courses of antibiotics (plus a steroid), which I have yet to finish. I have been off work entirely for the past week, coughing my lungs out and just overall being miserable.
Hopefully it will all go away soon. April has to be a better month! At least I am more motivated than ever to make the best of it, to go outside and enjoy a bit of the nicer weather.
